The West Whiteland Fire Company yesterday accepted a grant in the amount of $16.474.00 from Energy Transfer through its First Responder Fund, which funded the purchase of an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) to assist in emergency response efforts.

Energy Transfer is one of the largest and most diversified energy logistics companies in the country, with approximately 3,000 miles of pipeline infrastructure and gathering systems located in Pennsylvania.

“Over the past several years, in close cooperation with Energy Transfer, we have worked to intensify our training efforts to coincide with pipeline development in our area – particularly surrounding hiking and biking trail systems in remote areas,” said West Whiteland Fire Company Chief Kevin Miller. “This grant and the purchase of a new ATV is a game-changer, giving us the capability to promptly respond to off-road potential fire or medical emergencies.”

The fire company also was awarded a $13,000 First Responder Fund grant in 2016 for the purchase of a hydraulic rescue tool.

“We remain committed to supporting the community of West Whiteland Township through community outreach, as well as emergency trainings and financial support for first responders,” said Joe McGinn, Vice President of Public Affairs at Energy Transfer. “We were pleased to provide this grant to the West Whiteland Fire Company to better-equip the squad and ultimately enhance the safety of the surrounding community, where we proudly live and operate.”

The Energy Transfer First Responder Fund provides grants to help further the primary mission of first responder organizations, including local fire departments; emergency medical services; county emergency management agencies; county, regional and local police departments; and other eligible agencies. Grants are determined based on a competitive application and review process, and written applications are accepted on a rolling basis for the following cycle.
